Club Rules

Rule 1              Name of the Club

The Club shall  be called the Ventnor Golf Club

Rule 2.            Constitution

 (a)  Ventnor Golf Club is the Society name of Ventnor Golf Club Limited.

(b)  The main purpose of the Club is to provide facilities for, promote and encourage participation in the sport of golf for the whole Community.

(c)   Members of the  Club shall, subject to the Rules and Byelaws for the time being in force, be entitled to use and enjoy, in common with other Members of the Club, the Golf Course, the Club premises and the things therein provided.
 

 Rule  3.           Officers of the Club

There shall be a Captain,  Vice-Captain, Match  &  Handicap Secretary and Immediate Past Captain.
 

Rule 4.             Management  of the Club

(a)    Management: The  Management of the Golf Course shall be vested in a Golf Course Management  Committee (GCMC), which shall comprise the Officers of the Club and three others, elected from the total of Shareholders and Playing Members. A quorum shall consist of  three (3).  In the case of equality of votes the Club Captain shall have a second and casting vote.

(b)    Length of Office: All Officers and Committee Members shall retire after one year but may stand  for re-election. Should any member of the GCMC be unable to fulfil  their duties and responsibilities, said committee is empowered to resolve that situation.

(c)    Casual  Vacancies GCMC  may, from time to time, appoint any qualified person to fill a casual vacancy, the person so appointed shall hold office only until the next  Annual General Meeting.

(d)    Election of Members to the Management Committee One  month before the Annual General Meeting there shall be posted on the Notice  Board the Names of Members retiring from the Committee together with a list of the Posts to be filled and members offering  themselves for re-election.

Members of the  Management Committee shall be elected by Ballot at the Annual General  Meeting.  Any two Members of the Club shall be at liberty to nominate a  Member to GCMC, having previously received the consent of such Member. The  name of the Member so nominated shall be in the hands of the Company  Secretary of Ventnor Golf Club Limited at least fourteen (14) days before the Annual General Meeting, and will then be posted on the Notice Board  together with the names of the Proposer and Seconder.  If there are more Candidates than vacancies, the Election shall be by ballot,  and if two (2) Candidates receive an equal number of votes, the newly  appointed Committee shall select the Candidate to serve.

Chairman at General Meetings:  At the Annual General meeting the Chair shall be taken by the Outgoing Club  Captain until the new Captain is elected.   In the event of voting for and  against a motion being equal, the Chairman may exercise the right to a  Casting Vote.
 
Rule5.              Club  Meetings

GCMC meetings  shall take place on the second Tuesday of each month and shall be chaired by the Captain.  The Captain shall ensure that minutes are taken and that said  minutes are published in draft form seven days after the meeting.

 Rule 6.             Types  of Membership 

Membership may  be categorised as follows:

a)                 Full Playing  A member who lives on the Isle of Wight with permission to play 7 days per  week.
b)                 Country - Such applicants must be resident on the Mainland with no  more than two (2) months      -                                        residence per annum on the Isle of Wight and no permanent abode thereon.
c)              Weekend - A member with permission to play on Fridays, from 4 pm to Sunday 7 pm.
d)                 Junior  -  Under  the age of 18 (21 if in full time education)
e)                 Associate  -  Person who is also a playing member of another golf club on the Isle of  Wight
f)                  Social  - Non  playing member
 

Rule 7.             Members  in Arrears of Subscription

No member shall play the course if one (1) month in arrears
 

Rule 8.             Expulsion  of Members

If the conduct of any Member  shall, at any time, be considered derogatory or injurious to the character  or interest of the Club, and in the unanimous opinion of the GCMC such as to  merit expulsion, the GCMC shall recommend expulsion to the Board of  Directors of Ventnor Golf Club Limited,, whose decision shall be final.  Such Member shall have the  right to present his case to the Board of Directors before final action is  taken.
 

Rule 9.             Withdrawing  and Re-joining

Any Member wishing to withdraw  from the Club shall give notice, in writing, to the Club Captain prior to  January 1^st in each year, after which date the Member shall be  liable for the current year’s subscription and shall pay arrears at the due  date of such notice.  Former  members of the Club wishing to re-join shall be subject to re-election .
 

 Rule  10.           Members  Personal Contact Information

Members shall,  at all times, communicate to the Company Secretary of Ventnor Golf Club Limited, any changes in address, and any other information relevant to their Club Membership, and all notices sent to Members at such address etc., shall  be considered duly delivered.
 

Rule 11.           Complaints

All complaints should be made in writing to the Club Captain.

Rule 12.           Interpretation  of Rules and Settlement of Disputes

All doubts as to the meaning and construction of these Rules shall be referred to the GCMC for a ruling .
